Grapevine is named for the wild mustang grapes that grew on the area’s prairie land in the 1800s. Today, the town has more than 200 restaurants, bars and shops. Its central location in North Texas makes it easy to visit for a day, a weekend or even as the centerpiece of an entire vacation.
With family-friendly activities to appeal to every age group, it’s no surprise that Grapevine is a favorite destination for families and groups of all sizes. The Downtown Grapevine area is home to two annual festivals, Main Street Fest in May and GrapeFest – the largest wine festival in the Southwest - in September. The city is also known as the “Christmas Capital of Texas,” boasting millions of holiday lights throughout its historic downtown streets and neighborhoods.
Historic Grapevine is also home to museums and galleries, including the Grapevine Heritage Museum and the Art Deco Society Gallery. Families with kids will love the Interactive Art Park and can catch live music and theatre performances at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (housed in the building that features the Glockenspiel clock tower). Other highlights include the Wallis Hotel replica, Palace Arts Center, and the Texas Star dinner theater.
Those looking to explore the great outdoors will find a wide variety of things to do and see at Lake Grapevine State Park. The park is one of the largest in the state and offers a large water park, hiking trails, camping and fishing.
Grapevine’s hotels range from select service to luxury resorts, with options that will appeal to every budget. There is also a golf course, several shopping and dining venues and the huge Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center on Lake Grapevine.
The city of Grapevine has recently added a new mode of transportation to its arsenal with the arrival of TEXRail, which provides commuter train service between downtown Fort Worth and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. A new station opened in January 2019, making Grapevine an accessible hub for residents and visitors from all over the DFW Metroplex.
